Pre-Purchase Survey:

This is the most comprehensive type of Inspection and is strongly advised when purchasing a new or used vessel. Condition and overall operation of the vessel should be examined. This covers structural integrity, electrical systems, the propulsion system, the fuel system, other machinery, navigation equipment, miscellaneous on-board systems, cosmetic appearance, electronics, and overall maintenance as well as an out-of-water inspection and a sea trial.

SIX QUESTIONS FOR THE SELLER-

Prior to purchasing any vessel, it is recommended that the buyer obtain the answers to the following (6) questions, from the seller, concerning the past history of the vessel. Ask these questions on or before the day of the sea trial. If you are dealing through a Yacht Broker, submit the questions through the broker if the seller will not be on the sea trial.

1.) Has the vessel ever suffered a partial or complete sinking?

2.) Has the vessel ever been involved in a collision?

3.) Has the vessel ever been repaired in any way? (ie. Structure, cosmetics, or mechanical)

4.) Has an insurance claim of any kind ever been filed for or against the vessel?

5.) Has there ever been a fire aboard the vessel?

6.) Has the propulsion or genset machinery ever been flooded? (ie. Water inside the crankcase or cylinders)
